Hanna Orion is a 28-year-old artist based in Amsterdam. Her practice is rooted in the investigation of material transformation and the fluid boundaries between presence and absence. She engages with processes that occur across vast temporal scales. In these ways she contemplates impermanence, resilience, and the often-invisible forces that shape both bodies and landscapes.
Her practice reflects a sustained interest in the elemental: wind, water, salt, pressure, and time are not merely (environmental) conditions but collaborators in the process. These forces are understood not only as agents of physical change, but also as conveyors of memory and meaning by looking through and into the interior. Her approach often involves a dialogue between the tangible and the ephemeral, where material gestures give form to the immaterial; echoes, absences, and slow accumulations or types of erosion and weathering.
Currently Orion is exploring the spine of both non-human and human and delving into the possibilities of what a spine can be through the interplay of holding and releasing. She looks at the spine not just as a structural form but as a vessel and poetic archive for stories, memories, and the passage of time. She is interested in how stones, minerals and residues, might be engaged not as passive materials but as active participants in shared histories of transformation.
